Chapel on the Green is a ministry started by
Trinity Episcopal Church in New Haven, which we at St. Thomas's enthusiastically support. As part of this mission, St. Thomas's clergy are on the volunteer schedule to officiate, and St. Thomas's as a whole helps with the bagged lunches. From the Chapel on the Green website:
Founded on All Saint's Sunday 2008, Chapel on the Green is based upon Common Cathedral in Boston. Every Sunday, at 2:00 pm, we gather on the New Haven Green behind Trinity Episcopal Church for a 30 minute Holy Eucharist Service. We meet year round, and do not cancel due to inclement weather.
At the communion, we use grape juice to stand in solidarity with those who do not drink alcohol.
Following the service, we distribute bagged lunches to all those in need.

Lenten Collection: Shoes & Cereal
During Lent, we will be collecting funds which will be turned into vouchers cashable at Bob's for those on the Green whose shoes are beyond repair. We will also be collecting cereal for Loaves & Fishes. The goal is 20 pairs of shoes @ $50/pair and asn many boxes of cereal as possible, as cereal cannot be cheaply purchased by the Food Bank. On Maundy Thursday at Chapel on the Green, there will be a free foot clinic for anyone present. Bishop Douglas will be a part of the preceding worship service and will be on the team to wash feet. Vouchers for a new pair of shoes may be handed out at this time.
Last Sunday, the foot clinic was announced for the first time. Several of the men cheered. One man, whose desert boots were well air-conditioned, couldn't stop the tears. To date we ahve enough funds for 14.5 pairs of shoes. There could never be enough cereal. Please contribute as you are able, and plan to join the Maundy Thursday service and foot clinic, 1-3pm.
