St. Thomas’s Episcopal Church is a lively Christian community of faith located on Whitney Avenue in New Haven near the border with Hamden. Many parishioners reside in those communities, while others live as far away as New Britain and Old Saybrook. We are diverse in age (including many children and youth), race, and sexual orientation. All are drawn to St. Thomas’s by its distinctive atmosphere of heartfelt fellowship, intellectual inquiry, spiritual curiosity, and beautiful worship. When asked why they chose St. Thomas's, newcomers most frequently comment on the warmth of the welcome they received.
Sunday worship at St. Thomas's is centered on the celebration of Holy Eucharist, with carefully embodied ritual that is both ancient in tradition and contemporary in outlook. Music, offered by St. Thomas’s gifted choirs and the whole congregation, enhances the atmosphere of holiness. Sermons thoughtfully apply the lessons of Holy Scripture to the current events and concerns of the day. Family‑friendly seating areas provide comfortable space for even the most active children. The congregation gathers around the altar for Communion, and children are encouraged to draw near. Everyone present is welcome to receive communion. As we experience God through worship with one another, we are strengthened to follow the way of Jesus in the world.
The St. Thomas’s community includes St. Thomas’s Day School, a K–6 school that seeks to educate children broadly by cultivating intelligence while engaging heart and spirit. This year is the Day School's 60th.
If you are looking for a spiritual home, give St. Thomas’s a try. You won’t be disappointed.
Yours in the Peace of Christ,
The Rev. Keri Aubert
