Laura Bower-Phipps has attended St. Thomas’s since she moved to New Haven in 2008. She and her wife, Kat, were married at St. Thomas’s, and their daughter, Elizabeth Ruth, was baptized there in September. Laura grew up in the Lutheran Church in Western Pennsylvania and attended a wide variety of churches in her 10 years in Las Vegas. At St. Thomas’s, she ushers and lectors. She has served as coordinator of children’s spiritual formation and was a Sunday School teacher. Laura’s day job is as an Associate Professor of Education at Southern Connecticut State University, where she also teaches and advises in the Women’s Studies program. Her research centers on diversity in teacher preparation. In addition to her degrees in education, she had a second major in Christian Ministries as an undergraduate. Laura and her family live in Spring Glen.
