Christmas is just around the corner, so there are a few reminders and announcements!
Tonight is the annual Greening of the Church. 6 p.m. is a potluck -- bring a dish to share. At 7 p.m. we will "green" the church and sing carols around the piano. It should be a lovely night, and we hope to see you here!
This will be very brief. As many of you know, Fr. Ray has been sick all week and will not be in church on Sunday. Mother Mo will be in the driver's seat this weekend.
I was notified late Thursday evening that Dorothy Asch was taken to St. Raphael's Hospital. Mother Mo has been to see Dorothy and reports that she might be in the hospital for at least a week. Dorothy would love to have visitors. She is in West 322.
Sung by the Schola Antiqua, the "Missa Ave Regina Coelorum" was written by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina. It is one of 104 masses securely attributed to Palestrina and, despite its stunning beauty and rich complexity, was left unpublished during the composer’s lifetime. This is one of the only commercial recordings of this mass in the world.

Believed to have been written in 1420, the composer of "There Is No Rose" remains a mystery. It was discovered from a manuscript of carols in the library of Trinity College, Cambridge. This track is sung by Esteli Gomez, Noah Horn and Constance Cahill.

Boris Ord is most known for his tenure as Organist/Choirmaster at King's College, Cambridge. This setting of "Adam Lay Ybounden" is his only published work and is commonly sung as the response to the first reading in the service of Advent Lessons and Carols. This track is sung by the full choir.

An Advent evening will be held Wednesday, December 16th from 6:30-8:00. Please enter the building through the Day School entrance. Join us for a quiet time of discussion, prayer, and meditation, beginning in the Lounge and closing with the service of Compline in the Lady Chapel. Email Jenny Brown (jennifer.brown@quinnipiac.edu) with any questions.
This Sunday at ten o’clock, the choirs of St. Thomas’s will lead us in music for Advent Lessons and Carols. This is a venerable tradition of the Anglican Church and a once-a-year opportunity to enjoy beloved musical settings such as the Palestrina Matins Responsory. As in previous years, we will celebrate with five lessons, rather than the traditional nine lessons. A sermon is not part of this liturgy.
Our Adult and Senior Youth choirs were magnificent on Saturday evening. The sound of their voices was absolutely amazing in this worship space, and the variety of music delightful. Thanks to each of them for their dedication and hard work. It's easy to see why they won invitations to sing in England in 2011. Thanks, too, to everyone who came and enjoyed, to all who invited guests, all who provided the reception afterward, and especially to Sara White for her beautiful and delectable desserts.
