Our Adult and Senior Youth choirs were magnificent on Saturday evening. The sound of their voices was absolutely amazing in this worship space, and the variety of music delightful. Thanks to each of them for their dedication and hard work. It's easy to see why they won invitations to sing in England in 2011. Thanks, too, to everyone who came and enjoyed, to all who invited guests, all who provided the reception afterward, and especially to Sara White for her beautiful and delectable desserts.
Sunday's liturgy was absolutely joy-filled. We welcomed many guests who were at St. Thomas's for Luca's baptism. Bishop Curry's visit was a blessing; his sermon and the gathering of children for the final blessing were particularly powerful.
Though some may differ with the Bishop, he walked into St. Thomas's Sunday morning, saw the seating and baptismal font and said one word: "Coooooool." At the end of the day he asked, "Have you really used this arrangement only since Hogwarts Halloween? I thought it had been carefully planned and set up this way for years." This Sunday the choir will sing an Iona chant which was the centerpiece of Bishop Curry's sermon.
Cookie Ministry: Our students away from home in college or graduate school really appreciate the care packages we send them at the end of each semester. This semester's packages will be assembled for mailing after church on Sunday, December 6. If possible, contributions should be brought already divided into individual units; there are about 10 students who will receive packages. If you know of anyone who should be added to our list, please let us know. If you can contribute goodies, help prepare the packages for mailing, or if you have questions, contact Anne Harrison at anne_t_harrison@sbcglobal.net. (Sorry, the rector has already volunteered for quality control.)
Gratefully, we met our goal for Covenant to Care. Five hundred dollars was our challenge, and we received $550. We were able to provide dinners for a number of older youth aging out of the foster care system, as well as gift certificates for an after-dinner roller skating event. Thanks to everyone who contributed generously.
Thanks, too, to Cate and Stu Horton, who happened to be in the right place at the right time. Apart from Covenant to Care, a family of seven in need of Thanksgiving dinner came to our attention mid-week. The Hortons filled the need with an impromptu above-and-beyond-the-call-of-duty shopping trip for which we are especially grateful.
For the many blessings that so enrich us
Thanks be to God,
Michael+
