I hope many of you will join us at 5:30 this evening for the Celebration and Blessing of the Marriage of Parrish Rarick and Kaia Monroe. Then, at 6:00 stay for St. Thomas’s potluck supper.
This Sunday, we are excited to hear the Junior Youth Choir sing at 10:00 am. This will be their last sung service for the summer. Sunday is also Children’s Liturgy; please feel free to e-mail Mother Mo and volunteer for any age-appropriate liturgical task.
Members of the Adult and Senior Youth Choir have also been invited to vest and sing -- that will give us an opportunity to add our personal notes to the kudos they got last Sunday in New York City when they sang at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine.
Please read and respond to the following note from Andrew Myers regarding this Sunday’s Chapel on the Green:
Let’s start Chapel on the Green's first Sunday in June off right -- with the sweet treat of your presence -- and a special tasty dessert to share!
You are cordially invited to come help put together PB & J sandwiches after our ten o'clock service on June 6th -- and then help prep the fixings for dishing up some sweet strawberry shortcake to go with ’em! Afterward, come see what everyone is talking about -- join us downtown to see faith in action. Put your money where your mouth is… and yourself where there are mouths to feed!
What's needed: shortcake biscuits, sponge and/or pound cakes (homemade or store bought), luscious ripe strawberries, lots of whipped cream, bowls, and spoons! (There are usually about 100 folks in attendance -- so donations are enthusiastically encouraged and appreciatively accepted!) We also need you for any or all of the festivities! Slice berries, spread peanut butter, share of yourself with others committed to making a difference, help host the lunch line, join the drumming circle, greet parishioners, pitch in with clean up... as we often say "All may, some will, none must" -- what about you?
About Chapel on the Green...
Every Sunday at 2:00 pm folks gather on the Upper Green (directly behind Trinity Church) for a brief (25-30 minute) service of Holy Eucharist -- in all sorts of weather! Grape juice is used at communion to stand in solidarity with those who are in recovery. We believe this is God's table and all are welcome to receive Communion.
ALL ARE WELCOME!
This service has attracted a wide variety of people from across New Haven and beyond: those interested in social justice, the homeless, or anyone that does not feel comfortable in a church building. There is a welcoming drum circle before the service at 1:30 pm. Following the service bagged lunches are distributed to all those in need.
As representatives of our parish we know you'll greet and welcome all with a warm smile, looking each in the eye as you hand out a program or lunch. Remember, the most important thing you bring is yourself. CotG is a ministry of presence. Your hosting is about joining a community -- even if just for the afternoon -- not outreaching. Godʼs grace is woven among the community formed by the housed and unhoused on the Green. This is our time, together, to break down isolation and worship God. All attendees: volunteers, regular parishioners, clergy, staff, are welcome to lunch as at any “coffee hour.”
Come and be a part of this affirming and life-changing ministry... yours and theirs! We know you will not forget it or regret it. Feel free to invite others to come with you -- imagine what we can do together!
Last, and certainly not least, Mother Mo and the cast and crew of Annie send this message:
On Saturday, June 12 at 6:30 pm we will be holding our Annie fund-raiser. This year we will party in the gym with a "Before the Depression" 1920's Speakeasy! This party should be a blast -- we will have good music, cards, dancing, prizes, food and drink! Costumes are encouraged!
We are asking for a suggested donation of $20/adult and $12/child with a $50 cap for a family.
We are still in need of baskets for the fund-raiser, and if anyone would like to help out in any other way, please contact Mother Mo at chaplain@stthomasnewhaven.org.
We hope to see you here!
Faithfully,
Father Ray+
