Jesus teaching (stained glass at St. Thomas's.)

“Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice! Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is near.”

Philippians 4:4-5

St. Thomas's puts its faith into action through the following initiatives:

Day School
As a mission of the Parish, the Day School is a community of students, teachers, parents, and parishioners working together to foster creative learning in a context of faith and personal commitment, cultivating intelligence while engaging heart and spirit. The Day School serves 160 students of diverse races, creeds, and backgrounds from pre-kindergarten through sixth grade. The School allocates a generous portion of its annual budget for tuition assistance to foster an economically and culturally diverse student body.

There is a great support within the Parish for the mission of the Day School. The Parish has funded in the past a variety of drives - school lunch subsidies, financial support, teacher enrichment and appreciation. The Parish made a large gift to the school for the construction of the new playground to mark the school's fiftieth anniversary. The greatest support by far however isn't in these occasional gifts - it is in the countless hours of volunteer time that parishioners give to the Board of Managers and various committees, and their financial support of the Annual Fund and Scholarship Aid.

For more information on Day School admissions, see the St. Thomas's Day School web site or e-mail the school head, Fred Acquavita.

Covenant to Care
Our parish participates in the Covenant to Care program, which connects social workers and other child-welfare professionals with faith communities in Connecticut. St. Thomas's works with a social worker whose caseload includes people with HIV and AIDS and their families. In addition to addressing occasional emergency needs, St. Thomas's parishioners give book bags and school supplies, Easter baskets, Christmas gifts, and Thanksgiving dinners to families in need.

Sandwich Ministry
Every Sunday throughout the year, this ministry provides bag lunches for residents at a local women's shelter. Parish families in rotation prepare 32 lunches and deliver them to the shelter. A number of families participate, providing the materials for the lunch (sandwich, fruit, hard-boiled egg, cookies) with their own funds.

For more information, about the Sandwich Ministry, contact the church office.

Ministry to the Yale Community
St. Thomas's takes special delight in its relationship with the Berkeley Divinity School at Yale University, from which we draw seminarians during each academic year. Both students and parishioners grow and benefit as a result of this relationship. We also recruit choir members from Yale and provide a worship home away from home for many Yale students and their families.

Community Groups
From Alcoholics Anonymous to Grandparents Raising Grandchildren to the Connecticut Gay Men's Chorus, St. Thomas's provides meeting space for a number of community groups, some on a regular basis, others for special events.
