The Rev. Julie Kelsey
(Volunteer) Associate Priest
The Rev Julie Kelsey began her ministry as an intern at Trinity Church, Southport, in 1984. There she was instrumental in creating a partnership in ministry with the Rev. Wilfrido Ramos, then newly arrived in Bridgeport from Puerto Rico. The partnership became a model for ministry in the Bridgeport Deanery at the time. In 1994, Julie was asked to serve as Lay Associate Rector of Calvary Church, Bridgeport, where she founded Family Matters, a program for birth to three children in at risk families, many of whom were refugees. The program is still running. Julie was ordained in 1996. She continued half-time as Senior Associate Rector at Trinity and half-time as Vicar at Calvary until 2001, when she was called to be Rector at Grace and St Peter's Church, Hamden. In 2008, Julie was called to Yale Divinity School, where she serves as Assistant Dean for Pastoral Affairs. In 2009, she was one of the founders of Chapel on the Green, an outdoor worship service for people who prefer to worship outdoors. The service includes a bag lunch for any who wish to participate. She joined St. Thomas's Church in 2008. Julie has a B.A. from Smith College, an M.S. in Counseling from Bridgeport University, and an M.Div. from Yale Divinity School. She and David have been married 29 years. They share 6 children and 10 grandchildren.
