"He decreed statutes for Jacob and established the law in Israel, which he commanded our forefathers to teach their children, So the next generation would know them, even the children yet to be born,
and they in turn would tell their children. Then they would put their trust in God and would not forget his deeds but would keep his commands."
Psalm 78:5-7
Youth and music are two of the most important components of St. Thomas’s community and so it is only fitting that we have two wonderful youth choirs.
Junior Youth Choir
Our youngest group, the Junior Youth Choir (JYC), is comprised of kids ranging from 1st through 6th grades. They rehearse on Mondays from 3:15 to 4:15pm, September through May and focus on learning unison treble anthems and basic musicianship. Generally, the Junior Choir sings on the first Sunday of every month for Children’s Liturgy, taking an active part in parish worship. The JYC also sings in an annual spring concert, in conjunction with the Senior Youth Choir and trebles from the Adult Choir. All youth who are interested in singing with the choirs are welcome and encouraged to attend.
Senior Youth Choir
Our older youth group, the Senior Youth Choir, is for young adults in 7th through 12th grades. They rehearse on Sunday afternoons from 3 to 4pm, September through May, focusing on advanced choral techniques. The SYC takes a very active part in parish worship, singing with the Adult Choir on the first and third Sundays of the month as well as at all concerts and Evensongs throughout the year. The SYC also participates in yearly choir tours. In May of 2010 they will spend a weekend in New York City, which will culminate in the singing of Eucharist and Evensong at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine. In August of 2011 they will go on tour with the Adult Choir to England to sing choral residencies at Westminster Abbey and Gloucester Cathedral, with an additional service at the Chapel Royal, Windsor Castle.
