Mission & Outreach |
Parishioners of St. Thomas’s are socially aware citizens of the world who use their time and treasure to support many organizations and causes in greater New Haven and beyond. Below are some of the efforts organized by the Church, offered in service to God’s mission in the world.
St. Thomas’s Day School For over 60 years, the primary mission of St. Thomas’s Church has been St. Thomas’s Day School. St. Thomas’s Day School is a separately incorporated 501(c)(3) organization with a Board of Trustees tasked with direct oversight. An additional layer of oversight rests with the St. Thomas’s Day School Corporation, of which the Church Vestry are members and the Priest-in-Charge is President. Church and Day School are financially independent. Expenses associated with our shared space are also shared, based on use. The Church donates the use of the shared space to the Day School, amounting to a significant contribution over the years. IRIS Many members of St. Thomas’s support the work of IRIS (Integrated Refugee & Immigrant Services) through fundraising and volunteering. In the fall St. Thomas’s collects warm clothing for IRIS to distribute to its clients. Loaves & Fishes St. Thomas’s supports Loaves & Fishes, a ministry of the Episcopal Church of St. Paul & St. James (fondly known as St. PJs), New Haven, donating money, food, and volunteers. Episcopal Relief & Development According to their website, “Episcopal Relief & Development (ERD) works with our partners worldwide to alleviate hunger, create economic opportunities, respond to disasters, promote health and strengthen communities. Many St. Thomas’s parishioners donate to ERD, and the Church educates children about giving through ERD’s Gifts for Life program. Connecticut Foodshare Adults and youth from St. Thomas’s participate in the annual Connecticut Share Walk Against Hunger. |
