OUR COMMUNITY

St. Thomas's Church strives to respect the dignity of every human being by welcoming, validating, and supporting all persons, whatever their race, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, age, health status, physical ability, marital status, or stage of spiritual journeying.

Music has always been an important part of life at St. Thomas’s. The original organizers of the church, before securing a place to worship or calling a priest, procured an organ. The current organ,  in the American Romantic style, incorporating  61 ranks spread across three manuals and pedals, is original to the current building. The Choir, which includes volunteers and professional section leaders, has enjoyed a choral excellence; having sung at Westminster Abbey, Windsor Castle, Gloucester Cathedral, Wells Cathedral, Saint Thomas Church on Fifth Avenue in New York City, and Washington National Cathedral. Learn more about our community including Children and Youth Formation and Adult Formation by exploring the rest of our website.

our history

The church St. Thomas inhabits today on Whitney Avenue was constructed  and consecrated on October 8, 1939; but our history spaces over 175 years. Over this duration,  St. Thomas’s has had only six rectors: the Rev. Eben Edwards Beardsley, DD (1848‒1891), the Rev. William A. Beardsley, DD (1892‒1934), the Rev. Robert S. Flockhart, DD (1934‒1949), the Rev. William R. Robbins, S.T.D. (1949‒1984), the Rev. Michael F. Ray (1985‒2015), and the Rev. Keri T. Aubert (2015‒present). Take a deeper look into the history of St. Thomas here.
